The Corporate Controller is responsible for the daily oversight and leadership of the accounting records and accounting team. This position would be responsible for producing stand alone and consolidated monthly financial packages that are timely, accurate and in accordance with GAAP. Additionally, this position will oversee the operational side of accounting in ensuring A/R, A/P, debt, insurance policies, etc. are being managed in the Company’s best interest.

The Corporate Controller will report directly to the interim CFO and will provide business support and insight to the other departments in the Company. This position is located at the corporate offices in Santa Cruz, California but will involve overseeing the accounting team both at corporate and at the Company’s remote locations.

Objective : Responsible for the daily oversight and leadership of the accounting records and accounting team and responsible for producing stand alone and consolidated monthly financial packages

Key Responsibility:

  • Manage change and effectively and efficiently scale accounting with the Company (vs behind it or limiting it) with the ability to build and lead a team of accounting professionals ensuring A/R, A/P, inventory, fixed asset, debt, insurance policies, etc. are being managed in the Company’s best interest and to support the overall mission and goals of the Company.

  • Provide insightful, timely and accurate consolidated and entity level financial information to the right decision makers in a delightful way and in accordance with GAAP. Lead planning and budgeting process and monitor/analyze performance to Company’s financial plans.

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to;

  • Supervise and manage all accounting operations and staff including Cashier, A/R, A/P, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition and Taxation.

  • Prepare and publish timely and accurate monthly financial statements

  • Ensure adequate internal controls exist to safeguard company assets

  • Continue to assess the accounting systems and efficiencies that can be made

  • Manage accounts receivable collections and monitor cash flow

  • Mentor accounting team for purposes of ensuring quality of work and continued learning and advancement

  • Work with outside tax/accounting/financial firms as needed

  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

  • Participate in the formation and implementation of company financial policies and procedures

  • Define and lead the preparation of annual budgets

  • Analyze and report to management on performance to annual budgets

Additional duties as necessary

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in accounting and/or finance required

  • CPA preferred

  • 7 to 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 3 years controllership experience

  • Prior experience in retail and/or manufacturing a plus

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills

  • Experience with Quick Books and/or Net Suite
